XMMS For Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy HeronI noticed that xmms was no longer available from the Ubuntu repositories as of 8.04 Hardy Heron. That being an insane bit of nonsense, I went searching for it. http://blog.sartek.net/2008/04/install-xmms-on-ubuntu-804-hardy-heron.html has a great set of instructions on how to install from source. I then used checkinstall (my first time) to create a deb package. Hopefully it should install fine. Give it a test. I make no guarantee that it will work for you, but let me know either way by leaving a comment. If you have a problem with xmms not starting or crashing when doublesize is on then start xmms this way: export XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 && xmms That's what this page http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-268577.html says to do anyway, and it seems to work fine. xmms 1.2.11-1 i386

Other XMMS package
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/hardy/i386/xmms/1:1.2.10+20070601-1build2 is the other package that is available. Try that if mine fails. :)
Didn't work
Deb file great idea but didn't work. No XMMS in "Sound & Video" applications drop-down menu. Pressing "Alt+F2" then typing "xmms" didn't work either. Now how to UNDO this .deb installation, if you please. Thank you, and why don't .deb files work on everyone's computers, by the way? I've created .deb's that didn't work on other computers, too. This is an interesting opportunity to understand why .tar.gz files are superior (they seem to work more universally, but they're more of a pain to install). Anyway, how do I undo this .deb installation?
Are you running Ubuntu
Are you running Ubuntu 8.04?
Anyway to uninstall a deb either use synaptic or open a terminal and type
sudo apt-get remove xmms
This package has worked for
This package has worked for others. Mileage may vary.
